Who checks the sellers
Every seller must name a home parish, and it is shown on their listings. The diocese decides who may sell: anyone with a home parish, people known to their parish, or only people on a parish register. A seller can also be verified by their parish priest or by the diocese, and then shows a badge. Some kinds of listing can only be published by a verified seller.
Someone reads every report
The diocese appoints marketplace moderators. They cannot read every listing, but a person reads every report. A listing reported by several people is taken down until someone looks at it.
Featured listings
Some dioceses feature listings for a fee the diocese sets and collects itself. The seller pays the diocese directly. EcclesiaOne takes no part of it.
You and the seller arrange payment
Buyers and sellers arrange payment between themselves, usually at pickup. EcclesiaOne and the diocese do not hold or handle the money, and cannot get it back for you.
How disputes are decided
Payment is between buyer and seller, so EcclesiaOne cannot refund you. If a seller breaks the rules, report the listing: the diocese marketplace moderators can take it down or remove the seller.
A seller who breaks the rules can lose their verification or be removed from the marketplace.
How to buy safely
1
Check the seller
Every listing shows the seller's home parish. A seller verified by their parish or the diocese shows a badge.
2
Send your enquiry through this site
Keep the conversation here so there is a record. Be careful if a seller asks you to move straight to another app.
3
Meet somewhere safe
For pickup, a parish is a good place to meet. Look at the item before you pay or confirm.
4
Pay in person
Look at the item before you hand over money. Never send money ahead to someone you have not met.
5
If something is wrong, tell us
Use Report on the listing. A person reads every report.
Never do these
Never send money ahead to someone you have not met, outside the sale page.
Never share your bank login, PIN or one-time code. No real seller will ask for them.
Never sell a relic. The Church forbids it outright. A listing that offers one is refused.
Never sell consecrated objects such as consecrated chalices or altar stones. Your parish or diocese can arrange for them to be passed on.
Never sell a blessing. Religious articles are sold unblessed here; a priest blesses them for the buyer free of charge.
Do not pretend to be a priest or religious. It leads to removal and may be reported to the police.
Do not ask for Mass offerings here. Mass intentions are arranged with your parish.
